Palacios Remondo Propiedad 2017
Palacios Remondo La Propiedad is a red wine produced by Bodegas Palacios Remondo in D.O Rioja. The winery was founded in 1945 by José Palacios Remondo, the father of Álvaro Palacios and of Chelo, who currently manage the family winery. Álvaro Palacios is one of the outstanding names of the Spanish wine scene. He is the creator of great wines like L’Ermita in Priorat and La Faraona in El Bierzo.
The winery is located in the municipality of Alfaro (La Rioja Baja) and its geographical location clearly provides it with a Mediterranean climate, with much more heat and les rain that in La Rioja Alta. This change results in the cultivation of the Grenache as the prevailing variety, since it withstands heat better.
La Propiedad is a single-variety of Grenache from vineyards planted at 550 metres of altitude. The vineyard’s soils are mainly calcareous, clayey-ferrous and with a large amount of pebbles. The harvest is carried out manually, taking advantage of the hours of less sun to keep the grapes fresh.
Once in the winery, the grapes go through a selection table before destemming. They are subjected to maceration and fermentation in wooden vats and then they are transferred to barrels to start the malolactic fermentation. This wine is aged for 18 months in foudres.
La Propiedad is a complex and elegant wine, with a fruit character provided by the Grenache and the spiciness of the wood.
Palacios Remondo Propiedad 2017 is a red wine with citrus and red and black fruit aromas on the nose, accompanied by a subtle floral note and nuances of chocolate. On the palate it is tasty and fresh, accompanied by soft tannins and balanced acidity. A wine with an excellent storage capacity that will be at its best after five years in the bottle.

Alvaro Palacios is a wine producer most famous for its Garnacha-based wines from Priorat. Established in 1990 by Alvaro Palacios himself, the winery has been forefront of Priorat's rise to fame as one of Spain's most prestigious wine regions.
Palacios grew up in Rioja where his family makes wines under the Palacios Remondo name. After spending time working at Petrus in Pomerol, he bought his own vineyard in the then-obscure region of Priorat, where the steep, slate-based hillsides covered in gnarled bushvines had been forgotten about in the second half of the 20th Century.
Palacios soon grew his estate and now owns several vineyards in the area, which make a range of single-vineyard and blended wines. L'Ermita, the most famous of these, produces a varietal Garnacha wine of the same name that has become one of Spain's most collectable wines, often considered in the same league as Dominio de Pingus or Vega Sicilia.
Elsewhere in the Alvaros Palacios portfolio, Garnacha is predominant but is often supplemented by Cariñena, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Finca Dofí wine comes from a single vineyard, whereas Gratallops, Les Terrasses and Camins del Priorat are all blended from multiple vineyards within Priorat.
Not content to just be a pioneer in Priorat, Alvaro Palacios has also focused his attention on the region of Bierzo, in northeastern Spain. Here, he makes wines with his nephew under the Descendientes de J. Palacios label.
