Parent Pommard 1er Cru Epenots

The Parent family can trace their roots back to Etienne Parent who, in 1787, established a professional and friendly relationship with Thomas Jefferson as his wine advisor for Burgundy. The Parent family have been a permanent fixture in Pommard since this time, with the sixth generation, sisters Anne and Catherine now in charge, and their brother Francois working with his wife at their Domaine Anne Francoise Gros. Since 1998, Anne has modified her approach to the wines, 100% destemming, hand picking and using three sorting tables, the story here is a little like that at Domaine Lamarche, where in recent years the quality has escalated.

We harvest by hand, it is essential and the basis of wine-making of great Burgundy red wines, made from Pinot Noir, the most noble and elegant grape variety. The beginning of the harvest is indeed an important strategic decision. Sampling and analyses are run, we taste the grapes some weeks before the harvest, and we supervise the sanitary state of our vineyards, which enables us to determine the first day of the harvest. The grapes are first picked out in the vineyards, and then rigorously sorted out twice: first on a vibrating table, and secondly on a classical sorting table, with 6 to 8 workers to select the best grapes.
